Improvements to Reports View in MyNetWorth and iNetWorth

MyNetWorth was inspired by my (happy) experience as a user of Home Accountz for nearly a decade. MyNetWorth is therefore primarily aimed at individual users, who want to manage their personal financial affairs. However, as many of you may already know, I am the Treasurer of a Parochial Church Council (PCC) and I run my PCC’s accounts with MyNetWorth (and iNetWorth when I am away from my Mac Mini). My PCC Accounts have to be inspected each year by an independent examiner before I can submit them to my Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) for approval and then use them to complete and submit my PCC’s Annual Financial Return to our Diocese.

As you might expect, I try to make my independent examiner’s life as easy as possible by presenting him with a full set of printed reports that cover all of the areas that he needs to assess. This set includes:

All of these reports can now be generated in MyNetWorth through the Export to CSV option in the main File Menu. The latest version of MyNetWorth (2.19) added the capability to group the transactions table in the Reports View by account and subaccount, as long as the Filter by Account option is set and either the INCOME or the EXPENSES account category selected as the Account Filter, whereupon the Group by Account option is enabled. The same capability was added to iNetWorth in version 2.14. Please see the MyNetWorth User Guide here and the iNetWorth UserGuide here for more details. I also added the same capability to MyNetWorth for Windows in version (1.3.2). The relevant section of the MyNetWorth for Windows User Guide is here.

I make my independent examiner’s life even easier by editing my INCOME and EXPENSE Category reports. I import their CSV files into Numbers, set the font in the cells that show the totals for each of the grouped accounts to bold, provide a cell in a row that I add to the bottom of the spreadsheet, which shows the grand total, i.e the sum of all of account totals, and print out the resulting spreadsheet table for him. My examiner prefers to have the transactions in the ledgers that I provide for him sorted in Ascending date order. You can set a global sort order (for the Accounts, Payees and Reports Views) in MyNetWorth via Settings / Preferences; in the latest versions of MyNetWorth for Windows (1.3.3) and iNetWorth (2.15) you can toggle the sort order of transactions (between Descending and Ascending) in ledgers generated in the Reports View by clicking on the Sort button that is located next to the Export button.

You are probably not a PCC Treasurer but I hope that your find this improvement to the Reports View useful. If you are a a PCC Treasurer, I hope that it may have made your life a little easier!
